FATCA - Updated FFI list and search tool

July 1:  The IRS has updated the foreign financial institution (FFI) list search and download tool website (as of July 1, 2014)

The FFI list allows for searches and downloads of foreign financial institutions that have registered on the FATCA portal and are in “approved status” as of June 24* and thus have been accepted and assigned a Global Intermediary Identification Number (GIIN) in accordance with FATCA regulations.

*A cumulative updated FFI list will be posted monthly that will contain the names of all financial institutions and other entities that have completed FATCA registration with the IRS and obtained a GIIN up to five business days before the end of the previous month. The first updated list is to be posted by the IRS as of July 1.

In June 2014, the IRS indicated that it will update the FFI list on the first of each month, and that the FFI list will include all financial institutions and branches that are in approved status at the time the list is compiled.
