Legislative update - Senate Finance schedules tax hearings for June, July

June 6:  Senate Finance Committee leaders announced the first in a series of committee hearings this summer to examine several tax issues:

According the the Finance Committee release, the scheduled hearings include:

  • A hearing on education tax incentives in June 2014
  • A hearing on ID theft and taxpayer privacy protection in July 2014
  • A hearing on modernizing corporate taxation in July 2014

The hearings were jointly announced by Finance Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR) and ranking member Orrin Hatch (R-UT).

The Finance release concludes with this statement.

These hearings will provide the committee with the information necessary to create a simplified tax code that promotes long-term growth and ensures economic prosperity for the American people. We will also continue to look for innovative ways to fix the depleted Highway Trust Fund and keep hard-working Americans on the job without diverting revenues from repatriation needed for tax reform. We look forward to engaging with our committee colleagues and constituents over the course of these hearings.
