Australia – 2014-15 Budget Unveiled by New Abbott Government 

On 13 May 2014, the Commonwealth Treasurer delivered the Australian Federal Budget 2014-15, the first budget of the government led by Prime Minister Tony Abbott. The Budget contains measures that will impact individuals – including those on international assignment – and their employers and may raise their tax burdens. Among the measures are: a 2-percent budget repair levy that will be imposed on individuals’ taxable income above $180,000 and an increase in the Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) rate to 49 percent.
