Australia – Lower House Passes LAFH Proposals Raising Assignee Tax Costs

KPMG in Australia reports that on August 21, 2012, Australia’s Tax Laws Amendment (2012 Measures No. 4) Bill 2012 was passed by the House of Representatives. The Bill contains changes to the tax treatment of living-away-from-home (LAFH) allowances and benefits. While the Bill must pass the Senate and receive Royal Assent, the Opposition has indicated that it would not oppose the Bill. As a result, it is expected that the passage of the Bill through the Senate will occur quickly.
