KPMG in China reports that a new law has been passed concerning the exit and entry of individuals to China with effect from July 1, 2013. The new law is meant to improve the existing system and to put in place measures to strengthen enforcement of the administration of the entry and exit of foreign workers. In the coming months, it is anticipated that various Chinese authorities will draft or amend rules and regulations to supplement the new law, and this may lead to procedural changes with respect to visa and permit applications. Companies with foreigners currently working in China should review the visa status of these individuals to ensure compliance. They may also take the opportunity to review their company's mobility policy to ascertain that the appropriate form of visa and/or permits are being obtained for their foreign workers in China.
