KPMG Law Advokatfirma DA in Norway reports that Norway is adopting, effective from June 1, 2012, the European Union (EU) rules on the coordination of social security systems. The guiding principles are to prevent double taxation and ensure benefits aren’t lost due to cross-border moves, thereby subjecting those persons to whom the EU rules apply to the legislation of a single member state only. In the case of employed and self-employed persons, the legislation of the member state where the activity is carried out usually applies.
