OTC Derivatives Dealers Face a New Regulatory Framework

The Dodd-Frank Act has more than 16 sections to address the sustainability and transparency of the U.S. financial markets. In section seven, it gives federal regulators authority to oversee the Over-The-Counter derivatives market for the first time. The OTC market is estimated to be more than $600 trillion.

The new regulatory rules will affect swap dealers and major swap participants in all business areas of the OTC derivatives market, including clearing, trading, capital, margining, reporting and recordkeeping.
