Through funding from the KPMG Foundation, KPMG LLP has teamed with the National Academy Foundation (NAF) to strengthen high school accounting education at its Academies of Finance (AOF) nationwide. This relationship provides us with a unique opportunity to reach high-school students who have an interest in finance, and engage our employees and partners in activities that include teaching and mentoring these students.
The NAF's Academies of Finance, established in 1982, is an acclaimed national network of high school career academies based in predominately urban districts. They serve as "schools within schools," with rigorous, career-themed curricula. NAF connects high school students in 243 locations around the country with the world of financial services, offering a curriculum that covers banking and credit, financial planning, international finance, securities, insurance, accounting, and economics.
KPMG works with NAF on its accounting curriculum, guiding and supporting NAF's accounting course sequence to ensure industry relevance, including professional development for teachers who implement the curriculum. KPMG's involvement also drives skills-based volunteerism, offering our employees and partners the opportunity to share their knowledge with the students through work-based learning experiences, including job shadowing, mock interviews, guest speaking, and resume/portfolio reviews.
