Global opportunities

Change extends your horizons. It gives fresh perspective and the opportunity to learn from others. That’s why we make it easy for you to move around at KPMG.

What can I do?

What can I do?
Whatever stage of your career, you can look forward to truly challenging and rewarding opportunities at KPMG.

KPMG possesses global clients with a global outlook. It means we need people who are both global thinkers and globally mobile.

In fact, our people are constantly moving around KPMG’s global network of member firms in around 140 countries. To assist in the process we operate a Global Opportunities program. Openings under the program range from short-term assignments of up to 3 months through to long-term engagements of 2 to 3 years duration. Some of our people make permanent moves.

When I decided I wanted to go on a secondment, there’s a process, of course. I was contacted by the Australian firm’s Melbourne office and they arranged for me to go there. I was shown around the country, the city and had training about the Australian way of doing business. Everything was done to facilitate my settling in.

Of course, international opportunities reflect the needs of the business and will be affected by the area in which you work and your experience. Nevertheless opportunities are continually arising.

For example, young tax professionals can take advantage of our Tax Trek program offering 3 month international placements. It exposes the individuals concerned to our international clients, provides great networking opportunities and provides the experience of a different country and culture. (And don’t worry, international opportunities are not confined to our tax practice.)

My Tax Trek assignment took me to Guangzhou, China. It provided a terrific opportunity to experience life and work in an environment that is completely different to Australia. I enjoyed the challenge of stepping off the plane knowing no one and having to build my own network of work and social contacts. Taking my passport to a client meeting in Hong Kong was a definite novelty, as was eating tree fungus for lunch and chicken toe joints for dinner.
