International Development

The developing world faces a number of critical challenges in the early part of the 21st Century: strengthening the capacity of people to design and deliver development policies; enhancing the accountability of states towards their citizens; building the capacity of societies to prevent and manage conflict; providing universal access to education; and building systems to deliver public health services to battle diseases such as TB, malaria, and HIV. These issues will continue to challenge the world at large and demand its attention and support.

KPMG can play a key role in this. We are one of the most experienced providers of professional services to the development sector in Africa, Asia, the Americas, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. We can demonstrate local experience in every country in the developing world, and maintain a presence in numerous fragile and conflict-affected states: those that are of the highest priority to the development community.

Our UK team has expertise in development economics, private sector development, international trade, governance, evaluation services, anti-corruption, security and access to justice and public sector reform. We are part of KPMG’s growing International Development Assistance Services practice that brings together a global network of more than 250 professionals, specialising in the fields of public sector reform, private sector development, audit and assurance, as well as programme and project management. This is backed by an extensive pool of specialised consultants and the benefits of one of the world’s largest providers of professional services. We offer a one-stop shop for governments, development partners, private and non-profit organisations involved in all aspects of regional, national and local development.

Global pressure on public finances is increasing. It is vital to ensure that aid assistance leads to demonstrable results. KPMG is at the forefront of international thinking in this field.

We are the lead evaluator for the UK’s Independent Commission for Aid Impact, ICAI, the independent body responsible for scrutiny of UK development assistance. By supporting ICAI, we are helping to maximise the impact and effectiveness of the UK aid budget for intended beneficiaries and the delivery of value for money for the UK taxpayer.

In April, KPMG’s International Development Assistance Services practice convened business leaders, policy makers, academics and KPMG partners and senior managers from around the globe at its 2012 IDAS International Conference - Change, Emerging Nations and the Age of Civil Society.
The event featured the launch of the new Change Readiness Index as well as sessions covering the issues of accountability, austerity, convergence in development and development value chains.
