KPMG New Zealand Chief Executive Paul Herrod outlined the firm has entered into a strategic relationship with local accountant Ross Wells and Company. Senior KPMG accounting and advisory people will locate in Timaru with KPMG seeking to further expand its footprint in the area with the addition of new people. A shift into a new office is also being planned.
Paul Herrod explains, "A move into regional Canterbury reflects KPMG’s recognition of the contribution the area and agriculture plays in fuelling New Zealand’s prosperity and complements our existing regional footprints in Hamilton and Tauranga."
Ross Wells said, “It is an exciting time for the region with the growth in agriculture, irrigation infrastructure, the economic spin-off resulting from the new joint venture partnership between Port of Tauranga and Timaru based Prime Port, and many other commercial enterprises doing well. KPMG will bring specialist expertise to the region in the areas of advisory, accounting, auditing and tax and I am excited at the opportunities this will provide to our staff and clients."
KPMG Christchurch Private Enterprise Partner Andrew Hawkes stated that, “Establishing a permanent presence in Timaru was a logical step for the firm given the number of clients currently being serviced in the South Canterbury area and beyond."
The move will create opportunities for some senior KPMG professionals with ties to the region to return, and will bring on board new partners and staff who will gain specialist skills and experience through the KPMG national and global network while enjoying all the lifestyle benefits South Canterbury has to offer.
