Chile - Tax reform update

July 10:  Chile’s Ministry of Finance has created a dedicated website that tracks information about the status of the tax reform initiative.

The website (Spanish) includes updates and documents related to the tax reform initiative, with the most recent posting providing text of a protocolo approved by the Senate in July 2014.

A package of tax reform measures, to overhaul the Chilean tax system, was presented to the Chilean Congress in early April 2014. Among other items, the legislation would repeal a mechanism that allows for the deferral of taxation on reinvested profits of foreign shareholders.

The lower house approved the tax reform in April 2014.
