Markets in Financial Instruments Directive 

In October 2011, the European Commission published its much anticipated proposal for the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive 2 (MiFID 2).The legislation is the hub of a series of new regulations that will come into force over the next few years and will dramatically reshape the way firms operating in the financial services sector conduct their business.

While the intent of MiFID is clear, the text is likely to undergo a number of amendments and changes before it is adopted.

 

Parliamentary process will be long, controversial and inevitably lead to lots of changes to the Commission’s proposal. As such, the full details are yet to emerge – we will continue to monitor developments in the negotiation process and share our perspective on the potential impacts for firms.
