The Life of a KPMG Summer Intern

My name is Saman Al-Rawee and I’m an Honours Commerce student at McMaster University. Last summer I had the opportunity to intern at KPMG‘s Hamilton office in the Audit practice. I worked on a variety of clients such as NPOs, municipalities, universities, and manufacturing companies. It was an invaluable experience that taught me skills that are unattainable through classroom education alone.

This summer I am back at KPMG’s Hamilton office, but in the Advisory practice this time around. So far, about a month into my internship I have already gained a wide range of experience working in the many divisions of Advisory such as Valuations, Corporate Finance, and Management Consulting. Working in Advisory has been a challenging but rewarding experience as it has allowed me to apply my analytical and problem solving skills.

Another great aspect of interning at KPMG is the community involvement. In May, the other summer interns in the Hamilton office and I had the opportunity to take a day off work and volunteer in the community. It was a great experience to be able to help out a local organization that provides extraordinary services to the youth in Hamilton.

Overall, interning at KPMG is a challenging, rewarding, and fun experience that provides students with skills that would otherwise be difficult to obtain. The opportunity to work for a full four months in both Audit and Advisory has allowed me to explore the different paths that I could pursue in my future at KPMG.
