The 2014 survey represents views of senior executives from the automotive industry, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, dealers, captives, mobility service providers and car rental companies from around the world.

Key insights

  • Despite the automotive industry undergoing unprecedented change, relatively long development cycles mean some new advances may take as long as 5-10 years to evolve.
  • Changes are not taking place sequentially. The trend toward e-mobility is happening in parallel with efforts to improve the internal combustion engine.
  • Mobility solutions are increasing in importantce, boosted by the emergence of self-driving cars.
  • Global share of vehicle sales in the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India, China) is continuing to rise, although manufacturers from these countries are still struggling to conquer the more mature markets of Western Europe and North America.
