KPMG expands strategy capability

KPMG Australia continues to build its strategy consulting capability, today announcing it has added the senior Melbourne team of Pacific Strategy Partners to its Australian practice.

Darren McGowan and Kevin Altermatt, Directors at Pacific Strategy Partners, will commence with KPMG Australia as partners in May. They will be joined by at least seven other experienced members of the pure-play boutique strategy consultancy, adding specialist corporate strategy capability to KPMG’s current offering.

“This is another step in our growth process and we will continue to mature our strategy capability through selective acquisition and hiring of senior capability,” said KPMG Australia’s Head of Advisory, John Somerville. ”We fully expect the strategy opportunity to expand as clients demand full strategy-to-execution capability aimed at improving business growth.”

Growing its strategy capability is also a significant priority for KPMG’s global network of firms, with a number of significant acquisitions and senior hires made in the past 18 months.

“A significant trend in the management consulting market over the past five years has been the growing dominance of large firms, continuing the move away from a fragmented field of players. KPMG’s advantage is being a strong, broad-based Advisory business that positions us well to be a full service provider. This evolving market dynamic presents an enormous opportunity for us to continue to provide value to our clients,” added Mr Somerville.

Pacific Strategy Directors Darren McGowan and Kevin Altermatt have each been advising Australian and multinational companies on corporate and business unit strategy for more than 15 years. Both have strong consulting experience in the Agribusiness, FMCG, Consumer Products and Industrial Manufacturing sectors, which will broaden KPMG’s reach into those sectors.

“Joining KPMG represents an opportunity for our team to deepen the scale and depth in the current strategy practice,” said Kevin Altermatt. “We also see the great strategic fit that our senior Melbourne team has with KPMG’s Australian practice which will enable us to provide full-suite strategy services to clients.”
