In the Headlines (formerly IFRS Briefing Sheets) provide a timely update on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) developments.

Consolidation relief for investment funds (2012/15) 

On 31 October 2012, the IASB issued Investment Entities (Amendments to IFRS 10, IFRS 12, IAS 27 and IAS 28).  IFRS 10 Consolidated Financial Statements, introduced a new approach to determining which investees should be consolidated. IFRS 10 is effective for annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2013.

The effective date of the amendments is annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2014.

 

Early adoption is permitted, which means that an investment entity can adopt the amendments at the same time as IFRS 10.

 

Transitional requirements are retrospective – even if the entity would not have qualified as an investment entity in prior periods – subject to impracticability relief.
