Development and Exempt Organizations (DEO)

KPMG LLP’s Development and Exempt Organizations (DEO) practice can help tax-exempt organizations and their for-profit affiliates manage risks, capitalize on opportunities, and navigate changing times—both at home and abroad.

Regulatory Compliance Services

KPMG’s DEO professionals work with tax-exempt and for-profit organizations to help design and implement tax compliance structures and risk management frameworks shaped around the needs of the individual organization.

International Operations Services

KPMG’s DEO professionals can help clients identify and manage the risks and opportunities associated with global initiatives including strategic and process-orientated issues such as compliance with local tax and regulatory requirements, financial controls, internal structure, governance, intellectual property, employment and payroll related issues, indirect taxes, and changes to the organization’s home country tax and filing obligations.

Grants Advisory Services

Our DEO professionals can assist organizations—tax-exempt or commercial entities— with meeting their charitable objectives while managing risks and tax law requirements. We have worked with leading organizations—both domestically and internationally—in the areas of Strategy Support and Grant Facilitation. Our team can advise or facilitate at any point in the development of charitable endeavors or across the entire spectrum of implementation and evaluation.

Tax Advisory Services

KPMG’s DEO professionals are experienced in providing advice on transactions and regulatory requirements that require complex technical accounting, tax, and financial reporting analysis. We can also assist with unexpected situations such as bankruptcy, restatement, or employee transitions.

Alternative Investments and Pension Plans Services

KPMG’s DEO professionals have significant experience in reviewing investment assets and operations and helping maintain compliance with tax-withholding and information-reporting obligations and compliance. Additionally, we provide tax risk management services for employee benefit plans sponsored by commercial companies.

Enriching the Lives of Citizens in the Developing World

KPMG’s DEO practice brings together domestic and international experience to tailor distinct strategies that help meet the diverse objectives of countries that need to respond to evolutionary change and transformation. We work collaboratively with their governments, institutions, and citizens within both the public and private sectors.

Change Readiness Index

Now in its second year, KPMG and Oxford Economics have released the 2013 Change Readiness Index (CRI). The CRI is based on the hypothesis that the countries’ ability to respond to changes and take advantage of the resulting opportunities—their change readiness—will be a key factor in achieving sustained growth and improving the standard of living for citizens.
