UK consumers are increasingly prepared to pay for media content despite the fact they are spending fewer hours watching TV, reading books and browsing social media sites than in previous years, a survey by advisory firm KPMG has found. KPMG’s latest Media & Entertainment Barometer which gauges trends and consumers’ sentiments towards new and traditional media shows that UK media consumption in many areas plateaued or slightly decreased while money spend on media is up across almost all categories of traditional and new media formats.
KPMG’ s asset-backed funding for pensions activity in six months ended March 2013 outstripped the entire market for the previous year, and the uplift in volume and value of transactions is likely to continue for the rest of the year. KPMG’s “Asset-backed funding – Market Update” finds that the value of ABF for pensions in the six months since the end September 2012 implemented by KPMG in the UK alone was £700m; more than the total of £600m seen in the market as a whole in the preceding year.
Despite strong performance across most asset classes since the 2008 financial crisis, falling yields on high quality investments have meant that pension liabilities have still managed to outpace the growth in pension fund assets, finds the 2013 Pensions Accounting Survey from KPMG in the UK. Measured over the period since January 2008, UK pension liabilities calculated on an IFRS basis have increased by over 60%. This is due primarily to falling yields on AA corporate bonds, which are used to discount the value of future benefit payments under IFRS.
