This edition of our regular newsletter contains two articles very relevant to the leisure sector. In the first article, Jane Moriarty looks at the financial and funding challenges facing the hotel sector, and the potential responses hotel operators can employ to manage these. In the second, Paul Stewart and Mike Camburn examine the changes to Machine Gaming Duty. They outline how it will affect those companies who own or operate gaming machines.

This is the first edition of a regular newsletter providing insight into highly topical issues affecting organisations in the leisure sector. The first article looks at the unprecedented challenges currently facing the Tour Operator market, and identifies the actions tour operators should take in order to position themselves to reduce the risk of distress or failure. The second article looks in detail at one of these actions. It argues that many cost efficiencies made in recent years are only temporary, and outlines the necessary actions that organisations across all parts of the leisure sector should take to ensure cost efficiencies are fully embedded.
