Environmental Projects

As a socially responsible business, KPMG fully shares the concern over environmental issues.
Around the world, KPMG firms seek to raise awareness of environmental issues. In the 153 countries where we operate, we not only aim to adhere to environmental principles in our work and to promote initiatives among our clients, but also take an active part in environmental discussions on an international level.
Environment projects

Since 2008, KPMG has been running an international environmental protection programme called the Global Green Initiative, aimed at combating the causes and consequences of climate change. The programme's main goal is to reduce the combined carbon footprint of the member firms of the KPMG network. Having achieved our initial ambition to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2010 from a 2007 baseline, we now aim to reduce our impact by a further 15% by 2015.

The key principles of our environmental approach at KPMG in Russia and the CIS are as follows:

  • To use natural resources as sensibly as possible
  • To recycle or safely dispose of waste
  • To inform our staff about environmental issues and encourage them to be environmentally responsible

KPMG in Russia and the CIS is involved in the following environmental projects and initiatives:

  • A partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) (membership of the WWF Club; support for the Nature Reserves and National Parks of Russia; a joint survey in 2011 on "Associated Gas Utilization in Russia: Issues and Prospects")
  • The Green Office project (double-sided printing; getting rid of plastic cups; printing with ID control; recycling paper; safe disposal of PCs and cartridges; video- and audio-conferencing; posters on saving energy and water; adding greenery to offices; switching to electronic documents and rechargeable batteries)
  • Information support and annual events as part of World Environment Week and Earth Hour
  • Organising and taking part in seasonal tree-planting and clean-up events
  • Publishing environmental tips in our daily corporate newsletter.
