The 9th Annual KPMG International Case Competition (KICC 2011 – 2012) is set to take place in Hong Kong from 17 to 21 April 2012. This year’s KICC will have students from over 250 universities and 25-30 countries. In the run up to KICC, KPMG in India launched a national competition for the second year across 10 prominent Indian Business Schools to determine which team would move on to compete in KICC.
KICC garnered a copious amount of excitement from students across the Indian Business School community. We received over 1,500 student registrations and organized a college case study elimination round. This round was conducted by faculty members of these Business Schools to shortlist the top 4 teams from each college. These top 4 teams qualified for the KICC College Championships. With the challenge of adjudicating the 40 teams, KPMG judging panels consisting of senior people set out on the difficult task of determining the top team in each Business School. The top team in each Institute qualified for the next round of the competition in India – KICC National Final.
Tuesday, 21 February 2012 bore witness to the KICC National Finals at ITC Grand Central in Mumbai. 40 enthusiastic students arrived at the venue full of zeal to put forth their best and win the title of the KICC National Finals. Each team presented a different perspective on the case and impressed the judges with their talent. The judging panel comprised of senior people representing KPMG in India’s Advisory Functions. Each team made a 15 minute presentation and had to defend their viewpoints during the Q&A session with the judges. Post all 10 presentations, our ostentatious judges scrutinized each case to determine the winner who would represent India globally.
The most enthralling part of the day was the KICC Networking Event as it included the prize distribution, a few words from senior members of the Indian Firm as well as dinner and cocktails. Amidst dim lights and the glittering KICC backdrop, we welcomed 40 National Final contestants, faculty members from the represented 10 colleges and senior KPMG professionals. The highlight of the event included a speech by our CEO, an exciting purview on Advisory Functions and an interesting feedback session by the judges. For the second consecutive year, Faculty of Management Studies Delhi (FMS) conquered the National Finals of KICC. Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad was declared KICC National Final Runner-up. The networking event brought together senior professionals from KPMG’s Indian Firm and KICC contestants, making it an evening of celebration and networking.
FMS Delhi will represent their college and more importantly, KPMG in India at the KICC International Final in Hong Kong. The competition is expected to be the toughest this year as it includes multiple case study competitions amongst the brightest students across the globe. The judging panel for the KICC International Final will represent 25-30 KPMG member firms and this makes the event truly global. We wish Team India from FMS all the best for the KICC International Final.
Through KICC, KPMG in India has provided a stupendous opportunity to Business School students in the country to develop their professional networks at a global level, showcase their talent and participate in a remarkable opportunity to win one of the largest global case study competitions.
