Message from our Chairman
What are the current challenges and opportunities for KPMG on a global basis?
When I think about the current challenges and opportunities at KPMG, first let's talk about the opportunities. Today, we have a great need for people across the globe with unique skill sets, in accounting, tax, and advisory. Historically people think of us as an accounting firm. And that's true. That's our origin. That's our heritage. But if you look beyond that, we need specialized skills today, to execute in the capital markets. Specialized skills around complex financial instrumentations. Transaction services. Corporate finance. Operations improvement. International tax. So the opportunities today in the marketplace for us as a firm, are tremendous. And importantly, the opportunities for people joining us, from a career standpoint, have never been better. So if you have skill sets in tax, advisory or accounting, think about KPMG as a place to have a global career. In your home country, or around the world, where your interests lie, you can join KPMG and be extremely successful in the opportunities and challenge in front of all of us today.
What can people expect when they join KPMG?
When I think about what people can expect at KPMG, a number of things come to mind. But I think most importantly, think about an enriched career. Think not just about work, but think beyond just work. Think about the communities you live in, and the social responsibilities. Think about the diverse world we're in today. Be it ethnicity or gender diversity. Think about an organization that respects all of that, and is very inclusive. Think about a place that your career can take you anywhere around the world. Think about a place that will be challenging and dynamic. The opportunities in front of us are tremendous. And the challenges that you can have in a career at KPMG really are only limited by your imagination. Where your interests lie, where your skill sets are. Where you want to live, and where you want to work. And again, think about an organization that is demanding, no question about it. But also as one that allows you to give back to your communities. That allows you to have work life balance, and that recognizes in the world today, people want more out of their careers than just work. They want a balance between family, community, friends, and challenging career and at KPMG we have the flexibility and the opportunity to make all of that happen for you.
Question number three is what's special about KPMG?
Think about an organization where you bring two things together and make it very special. One is the people. No question about it. Our people around the world are some of the brightest people at what they do. They're also very good people. They're enjoyable to work with. And match those great talented people up with a tremendous, tremendous set of clients. Tax, advisory, or audit. You have the opportunity to work with the greatest companies in the world. Learn what they do. Understand what drives them. Their cultures. Their uniqueness. And bring that back into your own career perspective at KPMG. So when you think about KPMG, think about the blend of our people and our clients, and the opportunity it creates for you to learn, to have enriched careers, and exciting opportunities.
What has been your experience of KPMG
Well listen. Whenever you start with an organization, you remember the day you joined. It was July 9th, 1979. And I remember joining an organization that I felt comfortable with from the day I began at KPMG. I also think of an organization that created many opportunities for me. My first global trip was in 1988, through KPMG. When I went to Hong Kong and Singapore. It was a real life experience for me. Opened up tremendous opportunities in front of me. I think about the roles I had in the US. I think about the global roles that I've had, in leading global HR. Head of global audit. And the opportunities to meet people from around the world. Different cultures, different heritages. And recognize that when you blend all those things together into an organization, you're stronger for it. And so when I think about KPMG, it's the experiences of working around the world. It's the experience of working at home. It's the opportunities for my family to travel with me many times, to great locations. It's an opportunity to realize that you can make a difference in an organization. No matter how large an organization it might be, as individuals, we can make a difference. And I think throughout my career, I've had an opportunity on my engagement teams. In the office I've been a part of. In the national practice I worked for, and the global arena. But I've been able to make a difference at KPMG because of the opportunities that KPMG gave to me throughout my career. And so it's been a wonderful ride so far, the last 28 years. And hopefully many more years going forward into the future.
