Case Studies

Chris – Alumni LBS
Manager in Strategy – KPMG in the UK

"My name is Chris, and I joined KPMG after graduating from London Business School and working in the military and in a startup. I currently work as a manager in the Strategy Group, with a focus on infrastructure, energy and diversified industrials. I was attracted to the role because I had a desire to help organisations solve big problems, and this continues to be the most exciting part of the job. I also enjoy working with a lot of really bright and talented people (both within the group and with our clients’ organisations).

"Like any new job, there is a steep learning curve, but I think that each of our projects provides an opportunity to develop and learn and grow. Speaking of growing, we (the Strategy Group) very much feel that we are growing a business within a business, so my advice to any MBA candidate is to think hard about whether or not this appeals to you. And if you do decide to join, make sure you show up with an entrepreneurial spirit that is as strong as your relationship building and problem solving skills."

Sara - Alumni INSEAD
Associate Director in Strategy – KPMG in the UK

"I’m Associate Director in the Strategy Group. I was hired in this team as Manager and I have been working with them since then. The Strategy Group provides business and operational strategy advice, decision support, performance transformation and improvement advice, and due diligence to corporate and private equity clients in deal and non-deal environments.

"Doing my MBA helped me to satisfy three goals: I had a technical background, being an engineer by study and to progress my career and move in more senior roles, a more rounded profile with financial and strategic skills would have been very useful and the MBA helped me to complete my preparation; I had worked in industry for 7 years and I wanted to move in to more strategic roles and I wanted to do it abroad, the MBA helped me to access new professional paths and the international breath of INSEAD allowed me to do it in other countries; finally I wanted to have a really stimulating experience where learning from different profiles and backgrounds would have enriched me professionally and not, and INSEAD with its variety and international atmosphere was the best school to achieve this.

"A big part of my learning process happens in the engagements as every project offers different challenges. We also complement the training on the job with courses and special programs. The Strategy team ensures at least 7 days of training a year. The work we do is extremely stimulating, we help top management of big corporations to solve their critical issues. You learn new things every day and you work with very smart and capable people.

"We are a multicultural team, we work in several sectors and across different geographies, but we have a strong identity and we enjoy the time together!
Our business is growing and there are many opportunities. If you like problem solving, get in touch."

Jordi, Alumni ESADE

Senior Manager in Restructuring - KPMG in Spain

"I am a Senior Manager in KPMG’s T&R, restructuring department in Spain. I advise companies under stress or distress situations and I propose feasible solutions over financial and operational restructuring procedures. I Manage and collaborate with teams of restructuring professionals and follow the market to identify new restructuring and other business opportunities for the firm.

"I work on operational and financial restructuring projects in different sectors and types of company (from middle market to big corporations).

"During my time at KPMG Spain I have been fortunate enough to go on national and international training which has helped me develop as a multidisciplinary professional.

"The best part about my role is helping companies and stakeholders that have hit the same wall many times to find the best solution. Every client is different so there does not exist a common solution in my line of work which pushes you to be creative - you never get bored as a result.

"The advice I would give for potential MBA candidates is to identify in KPMG the practice that fits your background and goals, be prepared for an exciting job and keep an entrepreneurial spirit because KPMG gives you the opportunity to growth and reach your goals."

Esmer, Alumni Cambridge Judge

Manager in Strategy & Operations - KPMG Russia
I decided to go to Cambridge Judge business school in order to fast-track my career. The Master of Business Adminstration (MBA) gave me a good understanding of my future plans and aspirations and ways to achieve them. Consulting was one of the most desirable options.

I joined KPMG strategy group as a manager in December 2013. I was hired in the UK and relocated to Russia. Over the last month I worked on a project to increase foreign investors’ interest to the Russian regions. I’m also very actively involved into the department’s business development activities.

Being part of the team with very high-quality people I mostly value the on-the-job training that I receive here. I have further mastered my research skills through the relevant training received.

The most exciting aspects of my role are the extensive learning opportunities; fast pace environment and high quality and commitment of people around me. At KPMG you will develop your skills and knowledge in a very friendly working environment.
