Trusted Analytics

In our “Trusted Analytics” article series, the KPMG team explores trust in D&A across myriad industries, sectors and mediums, designed to provide industry leaders with the guidance and framework needed to make D&A a key business driver within their organization. It is our intention to drive forward a dialogue that – we believe – will come to define D&A in the age of the analytical enterprise.

Today, complex analytics underpin many important decisions that affect us as individuals, as businesses and as societies. With so much riding on the output of data and analytics (D&A), significant questions emerge about the trust we place in the data, the analytics and the controls that underwrite a new way of making decisions. How do we know a result is right or that automated decisions are doing the right thing? What does right mean? And to what extent does it matter, and who should be the judge?

As analytics goes mainstream, these questions surrounding trust will continue to grow – not only across most sectors, but also for regulators, policymakers and those who safeguard consumer rights. We’re witnessing a new, heightened focus on trust and – as algorithms continue to make more decisions about, or on behalf of, people – it will quickly become a defining factor of D&A. In our recent “Trusted Analytics” article series, the KPMG team explores trust in D&A across myriad industries, sectors and mediums, designed to provide industry leaders with the guidance and framework needed to make D&A a key business driver within their organization.
