GDN Research Paper: Policy Simulation of Measles Immunization Programs

This study conducts a policy simulation exercise on two measles immunization programs: free immunization against measles along with media awareness campaign and free immunization against measles with house-to-house campaign.

Despite the efforts of the Nigerian government, policy makers and other stakeholders towards increasing the vaccination coverage against infections in children, the coverage for immunization against measles remains very low. While the problem is acute in the northern part of Nigeria, its present form in Borno state requires even greater and most urgent attention. This study is an attempt to bring the issue to the fore. It conducts a policy simulation exercise (for children between the ages of 9-23 months) on two measles immunization programs: free immunization against measles along with media awareness campaign (Policy A) and free immunization against measles with house-to-house campaign (Policy B) to boost measles immunization coverage.
