"We have to educate, empower and equip our young generation, not only with the right professional knowledge and skills, but also by enabling them to grow into visionary leaders who can bring innovative and sustainable solutions to economic, social and environmental problems that we are all responsible for. With the aim of being a good corporate citizen, we believe we are well-positioned to nurture our people to unleash their potential to build a better world for themselves and for the next generations."

Chairman, KPMG China

We all have a role to play in making our world a better place, by being socially and environmentally responsible. Since one of KPMG's core values is that "We are committed to our communities", we embrace our corporate responsibilities as a business organisation through our engagement with our own people and with other stakeholders in the community at large.

One of our greatest assets at KPMG is our own people. Our primary responsibility as an Employer of Choice is to satisfy our employees' career aspirations and ensure their well-being, as well as to raise their awareness about social and environmental issues. In a recent KPMG People's Survey, our staff sent us the clear and encouraging message that they celebrate and acknowledge the firm's commitment to the community. We are dedicated to creating a strong CSR platform while nurturing a giving corporate culture. More importantly, we want to be part of the solution and pave the way for our people to put their skills to work.

With aligned global corporate citizenship objectives, we have successfully developed needs-driven programmes in the areas of Education, Empowerment and Environment through our KPMG Foundation. It has also been extremely touching for me to see our people's humanity and generosity in times of tragedy, from Sichuan to Haiti and Japan, and how they give without borders.

On the environmental front, we are committed to further reducing our own carbon emissions as an integral part of our business sustainability strategy. We hope to see more and more businesses working together to combat the issue of climate change, by leading the way in reducing our own impact on the environment.

I look forward to the day when the business community will act collectively to fully embed corporate citizenship into its business and make it sustainable.
