Financial Services Transformation

Financial Services Transformation

Since 2008, the Financial Services industry has experienced unprecedented change:

  • International tax transparency pressure
  • Initiatives (e.g. FATCA, AEoI)
  • New regulations adding complexity and costs
  • Disruptive technologies including digitisation
  • Increasing emerging market wealth, especially in Asia
  • More demanding clients

What are your challenges?

Wealth Managers face three main categories of interdependent challenges: strategic, regulatory, and operational. To be able to survive, adapt, and grow, they have to answer very fundamental questions and act accordingly:

  • What is my growth strategy? Where do I compete? What do I propose? At what price? How do I serve my clients? How do I increase my revenues?
  • What are the new tax and regulatory requirements? How do they impact my business? How do I implement the changes? How can I optimise them to support my growth strategy?
  • What operational systems, processes, and IT platforms do I need to succeed? How can I optimise my value chain? What should I do in relation to efficiency and productivity?

How can KPMG help?

We help to assess specific challenges and transformation needs, identify executable solutions, and support the implementation process. Our effectiveness is based on:

  • A deep knowledge of the Wealth Management industry, core banking activities, main change drivers & implications, and key success factors
  • A multidisciplinary team of experts that can bring strategic change, tax and regulatory, operational and technical, and M&A expertise
  • A systematic strategy framework holistically covering financial objectives, strategy, business model, operating model, revenue, and operational excellence dimensions

We can deliver a fully-fledged transformation or flexible tailor-made services depending on your needs. Our aim is to focus on executable plans and actions.

Tax Transformation

Tax Transformation

In the course of the latest developments, international cooperation in regard to taxes is becoming more significant and regulatory requirements in the financial sector exponentially more complex. Moreover, the regularization of undeclared assets as well as the necessity to be able to prepare country-specific tax reports have become of vital importance.

  • Recognize the areas in need of attention and know your options
  • Handle the implementation of regulatory requirements effectively and efficiently

Internal Audit

Internal Audit

Banks and securities dealers today interpret Internal Audit's role in an increasingly dynamic, innovative and future-oriented way. IA's task no longer consists exclusively in making sure that regulatory provisions are being complied with; rather, it is these days considered to be an internal assurance/consulting and change-agent function which is involved and brings added value.

What are your challenges?

  • Keep up-to-date with more and increasingly complex regulatory requirements
  • Satisfy higher expectations of the Board of Directors, the Audit Committee and Management
  • Find ways to increase both the effectiveness and the efficiency of IA services
  • Maintain or even increase IA quality while trying to reduce costs
  • Recognize risks early on in a commercial environment that is becoming more and more complex

How can KPMG Help?

  • act as your sparring partner for any questions relating to the role, the establishment, the positioning, the orientation or the tasks of IA.
  • perform IA quality assessments according to recognized standards
  • assist in the planning (strategic analysis, risk-based yearly and multi-year planning) and coordination with other assurance functions
  • fully or partially assume the IA function
  • make available the industry and subject-matter experts you need (e.g. IT, data security / data protection, compliance, fraud/forensics, risk management, regulatory matters, etc.)
  • apply state-of-the-art audit methods and techniques (KPMG Internal Audit Methodology, data analysis, assurance mapping).)
  • offer worldwide support by local resources on-site

External Audit

External Audit

As an external audit firm, KPMG not only audits financial statements of FINMA-supervised institutions but also their adherence to regulatory provisions.

What are your challenges?

  • Keeping up with the latest accounting principles and their implementation
  • Adherence to all of the relevant regulatory provisions
  • Early recognition of challenges in regard to future regulatory requirements and duties

How can KPMG Help?

Audit of financial statements

As an audit firm of supervised institutions in the financial sector, we perform financial audits in accordance with FINMA circ. 2015/1 as well as international standards, such as IFRS and US GAAP based on Swiss and international auditing standards. As a result, you will receive an audit opinion on the audited financial statements.

Regulatory audits

In its circular 2013/3 the FINMA circumscribes the guidelines which inform regulatory auditing in Switzerland. We perform risk-based regulatory audits based on a risk analysis and audit strategy to be prepared annually and submit an annual report to the FINMA as well as to the audited institution.

Current topics

As our audits are forward-looking as well, we address both current and future topics in our audits. Often the so-called health checks and impact analyses are an effective method of preparing the client for the future by presenting optimization potential and alternatives.

A special focus is on cross-border provision of financial services, client suitability and based on that, product suitability.

What are your challenges?

  • Adjustment of processes and guidelines to implement the transformation process
  • comprehensive optimization of the relevant IT by automating and standardizing solu-tions

How can KPMG Help?

  • KPMG disposes of an interdisciplinary network of experts for every regulation.
  • You will benefit from the global pool of KPMG specialists who understand local regula-tions in regard to cross-border transactions.
  • Advice in all aspects of transformation process to ensure the correct, complete and cost-efficient implementation of suitability.
