European Corporate Governance Institute
The European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI), is a non-profit
research network, organized as an international scientific non-profit
association under Belgian law. Launched in January 2003, it has
become a focal point for academic research on corporate governance
in Europe and encourages the interaction between different disciplines,
such as economics, law, finance, and management. It contains among
the largest online collection of full texts of corporate governance
codes and principles.
Corporate Governance: the New Strategic Imperative
A new corporate governance white paper, written by the Economist
Intelligence Unit (EIU) and sponsored by KPMG International, reveals
the views and concerns of executives regarding corporate governance
and transparency. As part of the research for Corporate Governance:
the New Strategic Imperative, the EIU surveyed 115 senior executives
worldwide on their attitudes to corporate governance. A series
of in-depth interviews were then held with executives at more
than 30 different institutions from a diverse range of countries
and industries.
Corporate Governance Trends in Europe
A number of KPMG's member firms released a January 2002 study
of the trends of corporate governance in Europe entiled "Corporate
Governance in Europe KPMG Survey 2001/02". This study explores
key governance areas including board structures; the role and
definition of independent directors; audit, remuneration and nomination
committees; risk awareness; and the value of internal controls.
A summary of corporate governance practices in eight European
countries is also included.
