Alan led KPMG in South Africa’s Tax & Legal practice for over 11 years, and has been Head of Africa for the last 3 years. He recently took on the role as Chairman of the South Africa Tax Practice, with the objective of fulfilling a more strategic and client facing role. Recently Alan assisted with one of the largest multi-national PAN African SSC projects and has extensive experience in group rationalisations and restructures. He has also assisted in developing numerous broad-based black economic empowerment structures and in implementing the associated transactions.

Alan assists in the Practice on numerous technical matters and is known for his problem solving and solution based thinking. He has assisted most recently with the efficient solving of one of the largest multi-national South African based re-financing and restructuring projects that occurred in 2013. Alan has industry knowledge in the Financial Services area and has worked extensively in the telecommunications, short term insurance services industry, banking, and private equity sectors, amongst others.

Alan was the founder, and assisted with the formulation and roll out of KPMG’s international 7 Star Program aimed at delivering outstanding client service. Whilst the Head of Corporate Tax Services at Andersen, Johannesburg, Alan was also responsible for launching and developing that firm’s Value Added Tax practice successfully, before joining KPMG. Alan served for many years on the KPMG EMA Tax Board representing Africa, and remains on the Africa Tax Board.

Johan has specialised in taxation since 1991 and became a partner in KPMG during 1997. He provides tax consulting services in the area of Corporate Tax and Value-added taxes.

Joubert is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. Joubert has been with KPMG since 1997. Subsequent to the completion of his training contract he was seconded to KPMG’s Birmingham office in the United Kingdom for a period of 3 months where he obtained valuable international experience. On his return from the UK he joined the tax practice of KPMGin 2000. Joubert obtained his Masters in Taxation in 2004 (Thesis entitled: Mergers and Acquisitions: Analysing the tax implications for multinational corporations).

Natasha has been with KPMG since 1998 and has been the director heading up the South Africa transfer pricing practice since 2008. She advises on a broad spectrum of transfer pricing issues, ranging from the preparation of contemporaneous documentation and planning to dispute resolution, taking into account the unique circumstances of various African jurisdictions in which clients may operate.

Natasha has worked with a wide range of industries and has had extensive experience in the restructuring of operations from an international tax and transfer pricing point of view within a Pan-African context. In this regard, she assists multinational companies in evaluating and managing their transfer pricing risks, using legal and tax knowledge as well as economic comprehension.

Natasha also has a great deal of experience in managing integrated tax projects across several jurisdictions.

Di specialises in Indirect Tax as well as the corporate and international tax implications of investment into South Africa and Namibia, and in oil and gas transactions. Her major clients include international and listed clients, in the offshore oil mining industry, as well as clients in the retail and financial services sector. She heads up the Indirect Tax department in Cape Town, as well as the oil & gas tax unit nationally.

VAT specialisations: Advising on VAT implications of joint venture arrangements for oil and gas exploration ventures and the sale of oil and gas rights, including timing of VAT payment and obtaining Advance Tax Rulings from SARS. Tanya provides international corporate tax advice to companies in a wide range of industries. Her areas of specialisation include the restructuring of businesses, mergers and acquisitions and the provision of due diligence services, inbound and outbound investment, the tax treatment of controlled foreign companies and the interpretation of double tax agreements. She currently has a specific focus on inbound investment in the renewable energy industry, advising on the structuring of such investments and ways to maximize the tax efficiencies thereof, be it hydro, solar or wind power.

Zohra has 10 years experience in commerce and 9 years experience in tax of which 7 years is in the tax division at KPMG.

Zohra was admitted as a partner in 2010. She was appointed head of the Global Mobility Services department, at KPMG Cape Town, in April 2008. The department has a large client base to which it provides employees’ tax and expatriate compliance and consulting services.

Her experience includes employees’ tax due diligence reviews, effective risk management of an employer’s tax withholding and reporting obligations, assistance with employees’ tax audits, expatriate tax compliance services, advising on employee share based incentive schemes; shadow payroll services.

Prior to joining KPMG Zohra gained experience in commerce, which included setting up a tax function at a large company, heading a divisional financial function, serving as a Pension Fund trustee and as a Pension Fund principal officer.

Yasmeen completed one year of academic articles at the University of Natal, before completing her articles at KPMG. She joined KPMG’s tax department for a short period, before leaving to work at SARS. Yasmeen spent 6 years at SARS, as an integrated field auditor, which required experience and knowledge of multiple tax types. She worked on a wide range of clients, from individuals, trusts, public benefit organisations, private companies and listed companies. While at SARS she gained experience in a range of different industries including retail, wholesale, food processing, finance, manufacture and farming.

Yasmeen rejoined KPMG in 2008 and now heads up the Tax practice in the KZN region where she has also worked on a wide range of international and local clients, who operate in various industries. She is the vice chairman of the Tax Committee of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in the Eastern Region and had been co-opted as a member of the Steering Committee on Islamic Financial Services at National Treasury. Yasmeen also writes tax articles for several media publications and tax journals, and has made presentations to National Treasury on the South African tax issues related to Islamic financial products.
