South Africa is India’s largest trading partner in Africa. Bilateral trade has grown rapidly over the last few years and reached almost US$ 6.3 billion during 2007-08 and US$ 3.8 billion (April to Sept) in 2008-09.

This year’s conference has been held amidst concerns over the impact of the international financial crisis on economic ties between India and South Africa. Themed ‘Building partnerships when the chips are down’, the conference was organised by the Indian Consulate General in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). KPMG in South Africa was the knowledge partner to the conference.
This paper summarises the deliberations and outcomes that occurred at the conference on 23 July 2009 with the aim of providing a platform for further discussion and implementation.
