Schedule J, instructions - income averaging for farmers 

October 2:   The IRS has posted Schedule J, Income Averaging for Farmers and Fishermen, and the related instructions for use by individual farmers in filing their Form 1040 for 2012.

Schedule J [PDF 73 KB] and the instructions for Schedule J [PDF 356 KB] were posted September 27, 2012.


Schedule J is used by farmers and fishermen to compute their 2012 income tax by averaging over the previous three years (the base years) all or part of their 2012 taxable income from the trade or business of farming or fishing.
