FATCA - Ireland signs agreement with United States

December 21:   Ireland’s Department of Finance today announced the signing of an agreement between Ireland and the United States to implement the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).

The FATCA intergovernmental agreement [PDF 210 KB] signed by Ireland and the United States will allow for increased sharing of tax information, and for the automatic exchange of information, annually, in relation to accounts held in Irish financial institutions by U.S. persons, and for the reciprocal exchange of information regarding U.S. financial accounts held by Irish residents.

The FATCA agreement offers certainty and clarity to Irish financial institutions, and is intended to assist them in preparing to meet their compliance obligations under the FATCA, according to a related Finance release [PDF 35 KB].
