CBP expands cargo release / simplified entry pilot

October 24: The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) today announced the expansion of the cargo release / simplified entry pilot program to additional participants and ports.  CSMS #12-000432 (October 24, 2012)

“Simplified entry” is the first phase of the cargo release program being developed in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).

The pilot program was launched in May 2012. The aim of simplified entry is to streamline the release of goods and enhance cargo security by segregating the filing of the transportation information from the filing of the entry information. This process, according to CBP, allows for the earlier filing of entry information, which will in turn allow CBP personnel to apply more time and resources as part of its risk-segmented approach in identifying high-risk shipments while potentially reducing transaction costs for the trade community.

Filers can update the entry information until the point that the conveyance arrives. The capability for filers to update information will result in more accurate data for CBP and participating government agencies
