KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory services firm, announced today that more than 500 of its New Jersey-based partners and professionals are volunteering statewide in support of Sandy Recovery Week, October 28 through November 1.
“Superstorm Sandy devastated our state, wreaking havoc on so many of our communities and so many people,” said KPMG’s Short Hills Managing Partner Kelly Watson. “We’ve rolled up our shirtsleeves this past year in so many ways and continue to stand united to help our neighbors and neighborhoods recover.”
During Sandy Recovery Week, KPMG volunteers will be leading efforts across a range of volunteer opportunities throughout New Jersey, including home rebuilding in Little Ferry, Moonachie, and areas of Monmouth County; clean-up and rebuilding in Toms River and the Barrier Islands; emergency kit collection and packaging at both the Montvale and Short Hills offices; NY/NJ trail clean-up at the Palisades Interstate Park; and park clean-up and tree planting in Mahwah along the Ramapo River. All of these areas were hard-hit by Superstorm Sandy and remain in need of restoration.
“In lending a hand during Sandy Recovery Week, we set our sights on a range of volunteer activities across the state, and the response from our employees has been overwhelming,” said Bruce Pfau, KPMG’s Montvale Office Managing Partner. “This enthusiasm, sense of pride and teaming by our partners and employees is what makes KPMG a great place to work.”
According to KPMG’s Pfau, this week’s recovery effort continues a year-long effort of support. “In the days after the storm hit,” he said, “we created a volunteer registration site of storm-related volunteer opportunities and several hundred partners and employees from various offices in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania participated in clean-up trips to Staten Island, Long Island, the Jersey Shore and other hard-hit locations.”
KPMG encourages its partners and employees to volunteer in local communities through its national Volunteer Time Release (VTR) program, which enables eligible employees to take up to 12 hours of paid time off annually during KPMG’s normal business hours for volunteer activities. The VTR program is in addition to and not in lieu of KPMG's other programs supporting community involvement and volunteerism that are offered through the firm’s national and other local initiatives, some of which may take place on the weekend or after business hours.
