Financial management


Financial Management teams help CFOs and senior finance executives make their finance function more efficient, effective and aligned to the overarching business strategy so that the organisation can realise and sustain value over the long term. We advise clients on how to use business intelligence and analytics to access the right information at the right time in order to make more effective business decisions. We also advise clients on how to use technology and process improvement methodologies to transform their finance function, close their books faster, define their finance operating models and make finance operations more efficient.

Some recent examples of client work:

 

  • Helping a global technology company implement major financial and IT transformation initiatives involving multiple countries
    KPMG firms used insight into local, country-specific regulatory and business requirements to help a global technology company in India implement major financial and IT transformation initiatives involving multiple countries. We reviewed the requirements, prepared the configuration blueprint in SAP and developed test cases based on our deep understanding of SAP functional modules. The client ultimately achieved US$100 million in financial benefits. 
  • Using our tested methodologies for integrating acquisitions for a  US clinical laboratory
    After a US-based clinical laboratory network made a US$1 billion acquisition, KPMG firms were hired for our tested methodology for integrating acquisitions, our in-depth knowledge of the company's business model and our deep insights into leading finance practices. We discovered that significant financial synergies had not been identified and allocated to specific integration initiatives. Our analysis also highlighted that the client did not have a single integrated project plan to track integration activities and interdependencies across functions. In addressing these gaps, we uncovered linkages between synergies and developed a financial synergy tracking tool. Ultimately we were able to identify an additional US$105 million in total synergies. 
  • Applying our expertise to reduce the cost base of the finance functions in a global universal financial institution
    KPMG firms were asked to apply our deep expertise in operational excellence and our understanding of finance processes to reduce the cost base of the finance function in a UK-based global universal financial institution. We applied our broad knowledge of the finance function to select the processes for a Lean review, and created a modular just-in-time training program to transfer and embed Lean skills within the various teams. Our work identified gross potential annual savings of more than 25 percent in the group finance function and a 30 percent reduction in total processing time, freeing up capacity for the function to develop higher-value services for its customers.
