Now in it's 22nd edition, KPMG annual Building Societies Database report summarises, in a series of tables and statistics and ratios and ranking, the financial performance of all 47 UK building societies. All data has been extracted from published sources, being primarily the latest financial statements of the societies for financial year ends between August 2011 and April 2012.
This year's report shows that the total group assets of the 47 societies have grown to £315.4 billion, compared to £306.2 billion in 2011's analysis. This increase of £9.2 billion reverses the prior two year's contraction of £13.3 billion.
After a decade where building societies have become steadily less significant in market share terms, are societies now set to play a role in the future of Banking in Britain?
