Some energy firms have already initiated large programmes to try to safely navigate the transition through this regulatory change. The regulations are all inter-connected and cannot be viewed in isolation. Energy firms need to thoroughly understand the impacts and recognise the themes and interdependencies that run between each of the regulations. This will allow them to drive synergies and reduce implementation costs.
This pamphlet contains a summary of the three main pieces of European legislation - Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID); Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR); Regulation on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT); and European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) - and their potential impact, including what firms should be doing to ensure they are well placed to deal with them.
