Speed in building extra airport capacity is vital, says KPMG

Dr. Ashley Steel, Vice Chair at KPMG and Global Chair for Transport comments on plans by Gatwick Airport for a second runway:

“The owners of Gatwick airport are right to look at additional capacity at the airport. London is a world mega city and its economy underpins the wealth and health of the UK. Aviation is at the heart of our future success and this means we must have expanded airport capacity.

“But let’s be clear, more capacity is needed now and this would suggest a third runway at Heathrow is essential. The debate perhaps needs to shift from an ‘either or’ to a ‘both’ conversation, with nothing off the table, including a new hub in the Thames Estuary in the long term, though speed in building the extra capacity is vital.”
