KPMG has announced the appointment of two regional housing leads, in the North and the Midlands, who will be responsible for driving its housing business forward, ensuring a strong, issues driven client focus in those key markets for the social housing sector.
Steve Clark has been appointed KPMG’s Northern head of housing. Steve has been with KPMG for 17 years working across all aspects of the Public Sector during this time. He has led a range of external and internal audit and advisory assignments across the Social Housing Sector in the North working with both Registered Providers and Local Authorities.
The cross functional team, based across KPMG’s five offices in the North, provides audit, tax and advisory services to a broad portfolio of housing associations.
Commenting on his role, Clark said: “It’s a complex time of new concerns for all of our housing sector clients in the North, given the impacts of the current welfare reforms.
“Other emerging issues being dealt with by the Registered Providers I talk to are changes in the debt financing markets, especially given the Moody’s downgrade, and strategic diversification considerations, especially where there is a clear fit with their broader objectives, for example in the areas of skills and employment. These are creating great opportunities but also some challenges in areas KPMG has a good deal of relevant experience in, such as organisation structure and governance.”
Andrew Cardoza has been appointed head of housing for KPMG in the Midlands. During his 14 years at KPMG Andrew has provided external and internal audit and advisory services, including governance and organisation-wide diagnostic and operating model reviews, to a wide variety of organisations in the housing, local government, central government and not for profit sectors.
Cardoza said: “Never have the wider skills held by those in our housing focused teams, such as data analysis, benchmarking, risk management and corporate governance, been more in demand by the social housing sector, more used to calling on KPMG for straight forward audit and tax services.
“As Registered Providers in the Midlands and elsewhere grapple with a changing agenda and strategic questions about their role, advisers who can share skills that help to address these issues can be a particularly useful critical friend to the organisation.”
