Pressure builds on London to ensure it has “efficient and effective” hub airport, says KPMG

Dr. Ashley Steel, KPMG’s global head for transport comments on the economic impact of “hub airports”:

“In a period of economic turmoil and rising unemployment the potential benefits of private sector funded airport capacity expansion in order to enable hub operations has never been greater.”

“With Frankfurt and Schipol continuing to build ever more runways the pressure builds on London to ensure it has an efficient and effective hub airport.”

“Failure to deliver risks business people overflying London as they prefer to ‘hub’ via other European cities which are less capacity constrained. This could result in the loss of much needed flight frequencies to key business cities as flights become less full and hence loss making.”
