David Elms, Head of Media at KPMG, comments on the findings of the Ofcom International Communications Market report released today:
“The findings confirm that consumers in the UK and around the globe adopt new technologies at a rapid pace. If anyone doubted it, the research demonstrates the importance of mobile data for all players in the digital ecosystem.
“This is a huge opportunity for device manufacturers as smartphones and tablets are the clear enablers of the fast growing online data consumption as well as for Telcos rolling out next generation networks (4G/LTE and superfast broadband).
“The survey also highlights the opportunities for media companies, including publishers and broadcasters, to distribute and exploit their online content. Our own research has shown that consumers are increasingly willing to pay for content on the move and we continue to see mobile media as an attractive means to monetise content.”
“Advertising agencies will also benefit from the booming mobile internet use. Future media planning strategies will certainly need to adapt to the dual-screen/multi-screen consumer trend.”
