Wil Rockall, director in KPMG’s cyber security team, comments on the news that more than 50 Norwegian oil and energy companies have been hacked by unknown attackers, according to government security authorities. He said:
“Many of the major energy and oil companies that we work with have been subject to cyber attacks in recent years. The companies operate globally, with whole regions and industries relying on their output, making them attractive targets.
“Unfortunately this cyber attack highlights the fact that current defence practices of many energy and oil businesses are not sufficiently robust. We hope that this will prompt the boards of these companies to look at their cyber risk strategies and make sure they meet the aims of the business.”
