The National Housing Federation, the main trade body for the social housing sector, representing 1200 Housing Associations in England, has appointed KPMG as its pensions partner.
Stuart Ropke, the Federation’s Assistant Director of Research and Futures, said: “We recognise that the subject of pensions is becoming an increasingly important issue for our members and are delighted to confirm KPMG as our pensions partner. We have been working closely with KPMG over the past 18 months and believe that the formal appointment will allow us to use the firm’s expertise to offer our members the guidance and assistance they require and enable us to influence key decision makers in the sector.”
The pensions issues affecting Registered Providers will come to a head over the next year with the introduction of auto-enrolment, more pensions tax changes and the results of the latest Local Government Pension Scheme and Social Housing Pension Scheme valuations. Across the sector pension costs will continue to increase unless action is taken and employers are seeking ways to manage this whilst still providing high quality pensions.
Steve Simkins, Head of Public Sector Pensions at KPMG, said: “I am delighted to continue our work with the Federation as it pensions partner. Not only do we understand the issues faced by individual Registered Providers, our work with many social housing clients gives us a useful sector perspective. We have identified ways in which the sector can manage its collective pensions exposure with assets well in excess of £5bn and believe that a partnership approach stands to bring significant efficiencies. ”
