KPMG in the UK was the highest ranked accountancy firm in the Environment Agency’s Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) league table published this week. The firm ranked 99th out of some 2,100 organisations listed.
The CRC legislation requires participants to measure and report energy usage to the Government; submit to audits by regulators; pay for carbon emissions; and be publicly ranked in an annual league table.
KPMG, using its own client-facing Climate Change & Sustainability team, has taken a range of steps to manage its carbon footprint effectively, including the installation of smart meters, gaining Carbon Trust Standard certification for its carbon footprint measuring and reporting, installing a Building Management System (BMS) in many of its 22 offices in order to improve monitoring and efficiency of energy usage, and putting a range of sustainability features at the heart of the design of its new headquarter building in Canary Wharf, London.
