KPMG staff and partners have raised over £120,000 for the firm’s national charity partners Shelter and Action for Literacy through a ‘First Hour’ appeal.
Under the appeal, staff pledge their first hour’s salary of 2014 to the charities - with KPMG matching those pledges.
Over 1,600 staff and partners pledged their first hour’s salary. It is the second year running that KPMG has hit the £120,000 mark through the scheme. The appeal provides a significant boost towards KPMG’s target of raising over £1 million for the two causes over a two year period.
This fundraising effort sits alongside extensive support for the charities through pro bono work and skilled volunteering, as well as KPMG involvement in campaigning on significant issues – affordable housing, literacy – that are holding back social mobility and which the charities are taking great steps to address.
Action for Literacy is a partnership between Dyslexia Action and National Literacy Trust whose work has strong synergies with KPMG’s existing educational programmes. Shelter works to tackle the root causes of homelessness and bad housing and help people find and keep a home.
Commenting on the appeal, Marianne Fallon, Head of Corporate Affairs at KPMG, said: “We have had a fantastic and generous response from staff, enabling us to raise vital funds for our two national charity partners. Both perform important work on key issues in society and we are very proud to support them as a firm. As well as fundraising, we want to create a sustainable legacy through long-term improvements to their business, and have a voice with them in public policy debate.”
