KPMG in the UK has announced the appointment of 29 partners and 80 directors from within the firm. The promotions take effect from 1st October.
Simon Collins, UK Chairman of KPMG, commented:
“This year’s promotions take in a wealth of specialist technical expertise and industry knowledge. In keeping with the latest ONS statistics for the services sector, our own performance for the year is strong. Our promotions reflect the types of business opportunities we are seeing, particularly for advisory services, including regulation and strategy, plus big market issues such as banks divesting portfolios of ‘non-core’ loan books and infrastructure finance. The international expertise of our new partners and directors is also a major strength, with many assisting UK companies chasing growth in the emerging markets.
“Financial services is a high growth sector for us and accordingly 20% of our new partners advise businesses in this field, notably in the banking sector where we are seeing substantial business model and culture change. We’ve also promoted specialists at the heart of the biggest issues society faces, for example transport or healthcare.
“While the range of skill sets and experience of our new partners and directors is diverse, it is disappointing that we have been unable to make sufficient change to the existing gender balance at our top grades. This year’s promotions reflect our existing gender diversity ratios of 14 per cent female in the partner group and 27 per cent in the director group. Recruiting, retaining and promoting talent is essential to any large, growing business. This year’s candidates are our brightest and best but it is clear we need to do more to ensure the diverse mix we see at graduate level is maintained on the path to senior grade.”
