Commenting on news that bingo duty is to be cut to 10% KPMG Indirect Tax Partner Mike Camburn said: “The Chancellor has recognised the number of bingo halls has fallen dramatically in the last thirty years and so his response is good news for the leisure sector.
“Bingo has suffered as a result of the smoking ban and has been through some tough times so the reduction in duty will be welcomed by the industry. In principle this will allow operators to increase the value of prizes and reduce costs of playing games.
“Combined with the penny per pint cut in beer duty and a freeze on Scottish whisky and cider this should be a real boost for the sector.”
Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne told the House the number of bingo halls in Britain had plummeted by three quarters in thirty years.
