Commenting on the 4G auctions, Chris Woodland, Telecoms Partner at KPMG, said: “The (re)entry of BT and the spread of new spectrum across all existing players goes a long way to deliver on Ofcom’s objectives of ensuring the UK mobile broadband landscape will continue to be competitive for years to come.
“Providing for a national wholesaler, and issuance of the 800Mhz ‘coverage’ licence in particular, won by Telefonica UK, means over 98% of the UK’s population will finally benefit from broadband access, providing connectivity to consumers and small businesses in remote and rural areas of all nations.
“KPMG expects that all operators will be able to offer decent 4G coverage in most of the UK’s major cities and towns by the end of next year, providing a good fillip to the enhancement of the infrastructure of UK plc and the economy.”
