Our approach to Corporate Responsibility 

Sustainability is embedded in the KPMG values and we recognise our firm has the scale, influence and business knowledge to make a significant and positive contribution to the issues that affect our communities and environments.

Corporate Social Responsibility

We have a clear vision of the role of KPMG. We believe we should use our skills and our resources to become fully involved in finding sustainable solutions to global and local issues, working alongside government, civil society groups and national and international agencies. This vision is in line with our values — where we make a commitment to the communities in which we work.


Today our sustainability agenda touches every part of our business strategy and we take our responsibility of being a good corporate citizen extremely seriously.  Our approach is built on a strong heritage and a dedicated team of practitioners and a sub-group of the UK Board work with the business to continually develop and enhance our approach to corporate sustainability.


We have developed a suite of policies and programmes to facilitate the implementation of our UK-wide ambitions, supported by specific targets and rigorous reporting mechanics to ensure that we are continually making a positive contribution to society and reporting our progress in an open and transparent way. Our leading approach has been recognised externally, including the prestigious Business in the Community Platinum Plus standard, for demonstrating that sustainability is at our core.

KPMG has achieved significant accolades in Business in the Community’s (BitC) Corporate Responsibility Index and Responsible Business awards 2013.


BitC Corporate Responsibility Index 2013


KPMG has been awarded Platinum Big Tick status, the highest ranking in BitC’s annual benchmark of responsible business management, the Corporate Responsibility Index.


Platinum Big Tick, a new Index banding for 2013, challenges companies on their long-term planning and sustainable strategy.

BitC Responsible Business Awards 2013 - ‘Big Ticks’


KPMG’s innovative sustainable procurement programme has been accredited with a ‘Big Tick’ in the Sustainable Supply chain category of the BitC’s Responsible Business Awards.


Through the programme, KPMG works in partnership with key suppliers focussing on; reporting on carbon, improving diversity within the supply chain and championing the Living Wage campaign.


Christina Vasili, UK Head of Procurement commented: “This award is testimony to the hard work and focus of our procurement team and business stakeholders in driving this important agenda with our key suppliers.”


Three of KPMG’s other strategic corporate responsibility programmes, have had their existing Big Tick accolades renewed for 2013:


  • KPMG’s work with the City Academy, Hackney - the accolade recognises KPMG’s increased focus on improving pupils employability skills. Such as the recently launched one-on-one tutoring programme, aimed at helping students from disadvantaged communities win places at top universities and increase career awareness.
  • The STAR 11 month work experience programme launched in 2010 is a groundbreaking approach to diversifying routes of entry into KPMG. The programme provides 11-month internships for 20 school-leavers from less privileged London boroughs - 60% of STARs take up further opportunities at KPMG.
  • And for the fifth consecutive year KPMG International has retained a Big Tick for the firms’ continued leadership position in contributing to the Millennium Development Goals through KPMG’s Global Development Initiative, which puts our skills to work finding sustainable solutions to poverty issues, alongside governments, civil society groups and other organisations.
